University Convocation Procession All staff and faculty are invited to participate in the procession that begins University Convocation. We encourage everyone to wear regalia, but it is optional. From the coliseum main concourse, take the stairs down to the Cougar Lounge (there is a sign above the entrance to the stairs). The lounge lets onto the lower corridor.

A traditional symbol of authority, the University Mace was created for the inauguration of Samuel H.
Smith as the eighth president of WSU in 1986. The mace is traditionally carried by the chair of the Faculty Senate during the procession of faculty members and graduating students at commencement and during the faculty and staff procession at convocation. The two-foot long, nine-pound scepter, designed by Tim Doebler of WSU's Fine Arts Department, is cast in silver and bronze and features a globe atop a laurel branch.
It is wrapped in a silver ribbon and has the inscription, 'Washington State University.'

The procession marks the beginning of the UTM Convocation Ceremony. This colourful event is stepped in tradition that reflects the country’s rich cultural heritage. Traditional gamelan music accompanying the procession provides added splendour to the occasion. The ceremony begins with guests taking their seats in the hall.

Next, the procession of graduates donned in the convocation attire with lapel of their respective faculty colours entered the hall. Then followed by Academic’s procession comprising Academic Staff, Members of Senate, Senior Officials and Vice-Chancellors/ Rectors of other universities. A ceremonial commander carrying the Keris Ganja Seiras Melela, the symbol of authority of UTM leads the ensuing Royal Procession, marking the entrance of Her Royal Highness the Chancellor, accompanied by the pro-chancellors, Chairman of Board of Directors, Vice-Chancellor and Registrar.
